**Hibernia Energy III, LLC and Tap Rock Resources, LLC (affiliates):** Two agreements announced together. Civitas's 8-K reports both closings on August 2, 2023.

## What changes for royalty owners after an operator is sold

The rules differ by state, and this page does not say how they apply to you. ### A new payor

When the company paying you changes, look for written notice of the change from the new payor. Texas law addresses a new payor's notice to owners (Tex. Nat. Res. Code § 91.407, summarized in the [RRC royalty FAQ](https://www.rrc.texas.gov/about-us/faqs/royalties-faq/)).

### New division orders

A new payor may send a division order for you to sign. Texas law addresses when a payor may ask for one, what it contains and how it relates to your lease (Tex. Nat. Res. ### Matching your owner records

Match the new payor's statements to your old ones by property, sales month and decimal interest rather than by the payor's owner number. Texas law addresses the contents of a payment statement (Tex. ### Suspense risk during a transition

Texas law addresses when a payor may hold payments, such as during a title dispute, and when late payments earn interest (Tex. Nat. Res. ### How do I find out who bought the company that pays my royalties?

Search this list for the company named on your last check stub or division order. Each row links the SEC filing that states the deal and, where the filing gives them, its dates. If your payor is not listed, the payor's name and contact details are on your check stub, and the operator of record for a well is on the state regulator's [public well records](https://www.buckheadenergy.com/oil-gas-well-records-by-state).

### Do I have to sign a new division order after a merger?

A new payor may ask you to sign one. Texas law addresses when a payor may require a division order and how it relates to your lease (Tex. Nat. Res.
