Unlike Stephens County (~95% Caddo formation), Eastland County’s top 20 wells produce from at least 8 distinct intervals:
Marble Falls Limestone — 7 wells (the leading formation)
Duffer — 3 wells (Lower Duffer #1; Duffer #14, #18)
Strawn — 2 wells (including the only modern 2017 directional well, Winchester 1)
Ranger / Lower Ranger — 2 wells (the 1917 Ranger field reservoir)
Caddo — 1 well (the dominant Stephens County formation, less common in Eastland)
Black Lime West — 1 well (Danley R.H.)
Mississippian — 1 well (Farmer)
Lake Storage — 1 well (Hill Lake Sand Storage Unit, anomalous gas-storage facility)
This formation diversity reflects the multi-stacked-pay character of the Bend Arch sequence in Eastland County. Each formation has a slightly different oil quality, decline profile, and operator-economics signature.
Of the top 20 individual wells, only ONE was spud in the 2010s: Winchester 1, a directional Strawn target in the Jo Kiel field operated by Interstate Explorations, spudded in 2017. This is in stark contrast to Stephens County, where BASA Resources’ 2014-2018 directional re-entry program added 4 of the top 10 individual wells.
Translation: Eastland County has minimal recent operator investment in re-entries or new development. Most of the top wells are 1978-1988 vintage vertical wells producing on continuous waterflood. For mineral owners, the implication is a more conservative valuation discount — the upside case from re-completion drilling is weaker than in neighboring counties.
