Integrated Oil & Gas

An integrated oil and gas company is one that operates across the full value chain — upstream exploration and production, midstream transport and storage, and downstream refining and marketing — rather than specializing in a single segment.

What "integrated" means

Most oil and gas companies specialize: a pure upstream E&P drills and produces, a midstream company runs pipelines, a refiner works downstream. An integrated company — the household-name "supermajors" are the classic example — spans all three. Owning the chain from wellhead to gas station lets an integrated major capture value at every stage and hedge one segment's weakness against another's strength.

Integration is a corporate strategy, not a property right — it describes how a company is organized, not who owns the minerals beneath a tract.

How it relates to mineral owners

A mineral or royalty owner is the opposite of integrated: you own the upstream resource and nothing downstream of it. When an integrated major (or its subsidiary) operates a well on your acreage, you receive your royalty on production the same way you would from any operator — the company's integration does not change your decimal. What can matter is the operator's financial strength and development commitment, and large integrated operators are often among the most reliable payors.

Buckhead Energy is a non-operating, upstream-only buyer of mineral and royalty interests — the specialist end of the spectrum, not an integrated company.

Frequently asked questions

What is an integrated oil and gas company?

A company that operates across the full value chain — upstream production, midstream transport, and downstream refining and marketing — rather than specializing in one segment. The supermajors are the classic examples.

Does it matter to a mineral owner if the operator is integrated?

Your royalty decimal is the same regardless. What matters is the operator's financial strength and development commitment — large integrated operators are often reliable, well-capitalized payors.

Does Buckhead Energy buy mineral and royalty interests?

Yes — Buckhead Energy is a direct buyer of mineral, royalty, NPRI, and ORRI interests across the United States, producing or non-producing. Buckhead Energy makes a free written offer, pays the title and closing costs, and charges no broker commission.
