Hess Corporation (HES): Hess's U.S. onshore operated position was the Bakken in North Dakota; it also held offshore Guyana and Gulf of Mexico assets.

Olympus Energy LLC (upstream and midstream assets): The April 22, 2025 release is EQT's first-quarter results release, which announced the agreement; its own text carries no separate deal dateline.

What changes for royalty owners after an operator is sold

The rules differ by state, and this page does not say how they apply to you. A new payor

When the company paying you changes, look for written notice of the change from the new payor. Texas law addresses a new payor's notice to owners (Tex. Nat. Res. Code § 91.407, summarized in the RRC royalty FAQ).

New division orders

A new payor may send a division order for you to sign. Texas law addresses when a payor may ask for one, what it contains and how it relates to your lease (Tex. Nat. Res. Code § 91.402, summarized in the RRC royalty FAQ). Read a new division order before you sign it, and ask an oil and gas attorney if a term is unclear.

Matching your owner records

Match the new payor's statements to your old ones by property, sales month and decimal interest rather than by the payor's owner number. Texas law addresses the contents of a payment statement (Tex. Nat. Res. Code § 91.502, summarized in the RRC royalty FAQ).

Suspense risk during a transition

Texas law addresses when a payor may hold payments, such as during a title dispute, and when late payments earn interest (Tex. Nat. Res. Code §§ 91.402(b) and 91.403, summarized in the RRC royalty FAQ). Whether a hold on your account is allowed, and whether interest is owed, depends on your lease and the facts; an oil and gas attorney can tell you.
